U23 Việt Nam has easily defeated U23 Guam, as predicted by experts. Throughout the match, coach Philippe Troussier’s squad completely controlled the game, with the ball mostly rolling on the visitors’ half of the field. Nguyen Van Tung and his teammates created a series of chances and scoring opportunities.
To demonstrate their superiority, the Golden Star Warriors secured a comfortable win with six goals scored by Le Van Do, Nguyen Van Tung, Ho Van Cuong, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Hoang Van Toan, and Bui Vi Hao. If they had capitalized on more opportunities, U23 Vietnam could have scored even more goals, like winning a tennis set.
2. Brilliant Performance at the Right Moment
Despite dominating the game, U23 Vietnam had to wait until the 33rd minute to celebrate their first goal. It was Le Van Do who shone at the right moment with a delicately placed shot that broke the deadlock. In the minutes he was on the field, the player from the Central Academy of High-level Sports performed explosively, creating numerous chances on the left wing.
Alongside Van Do, Nguyen Thanh Nhan also delivered an impressive performance. He assisted Le Van Do’s goal to break the deadlock and directly scored the fourth goal with a frustrating header that left the opponent’s goalkeeper helpless.
3. An Unresolved Weakness
Judging by the scoreline, U23 Vietnam’s performance in the match seemed perfect. However, in reality, we encountered some difficulties in the first 30 minutes. This was mainly due to ineffective ball distribution, with several misplaced passes hampering the team’s possession play.
This weakness is inherent in the possession-based style of play that coach Philippe Troussier is building, as our players still have certain limitations. It is a problem that the French coach still needs to find a solution for. In the second half, with a more relaxed mindset after taking the lead, U23 Vietnam played with confidence and gradually found their rhythm, partly due to the opponent’s fatigue.
4. Waiting for a Breakthrough
Against such a weak opponent, U23 Vietnam’s recent performance is only deemed acceptable. At least, the squad led by the ‘White Sorcerer’ achieved their goal of topping the group after the first match with a convincing victory. As mentioned above, we still have an inherent weakness that needs to be addressed.
The upcoming match against U23 Yemen will truly demonstrate U23 Vietnam’s real strength. It can be considered an early final in the group, where the winning team will likely secure a ticket to the AFC U23 Championship 2024. Fans are eagerly anticipating a breakthrough in the team’s playing style and another convincing performance from coach Philippe Troussier’s squad in the match scheduled for 7:00 PM on June 9th.
