During the September 2023 FIFA Days, the Vietnam national team only has one international friendly match against Palestine at Thiên Trường Stadium (Nam Định). Prior to this, the Vietnam team had won two friendly matches during the June 2023 FIFA Days.
Currently ranked 96th by FIFA, Palestine lags only one spot behind Philippe Troussier’s squad. In their last three matches, Palestine lost to China and Oman, and drew against Indonesia. Based on current performance and form, the Middle Eastern team is considered inferior to Vietnam.
Coach Makram Daboub holds Vietnam’s ability in high regard.
Therefore, ahead of the match between the two teams, Coach Makram Daboub confessed that it would not be surprising if Palestine lost to Vietnam in the friendly match on September 11. “I have observed Vietnam’s recent matches and noticed that even with a change in coach, the team still performs well, showing unity and strong teamwork,” commented Coach Daboub.
The 50-year-old strategist believes that Vietnamese football has made significant strides in the past four years. Competing against a strong opponent also provides Palestine with an opportunity to test new elements, assess the squad, and aim for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Coach Makram Daboub also confirmed that midfielder Mahmoud Abu Warda will not play due to an ongoing injury, while Ali Abu Alfa, who currently plays in Belgium, will also be absent. “We are experimenting with the lineup, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose to Vietnam. However, I emphasize that in football, you can’t predict the outcome. Palestine will make every effort to play a good match,” added Coach Daboub.

On the other hand, Coach Troussier acknowledges the challenge of demanding rapid progress from Vietnamese players in a short period. He calls on the fans to continue trusting and supporting the national team. The French coach states that his role and duty are to help Vietnamese football create high-quality national teams that can compete at the continental level.
